All Things Bright and Wonderful
Ok I Lied, It Isn't The End
So now I have to be fair - apply a little balance to all of this.
Is this the fault of our beloved menfolk? All the new fangled forms of subjugation? Nope. Not at all. We allow it. In fact, we help perpetuate it. There's an expression that pretty much sums this up; no one can take advantage of us without our permission.
Let's face it, there was a time, when out of necessity of survival, women were not quite as vital to the social structure as they are now. Way back; when we tended to die off in alarming numbers - childbirth took a whole whack of us.
What's the point in assigning social power to someone who just may be dead in nine months time? Harsh but it is reality.
How many of us - how many of my dear friends would have survived a true home birth? I know I wouldn't have - I would have died. A few of my female friends, relatives would have died as well.
The estimation of women who died in childbirth, in past centuries, is estimated between 40 and 60%. Those aren't great odds. Then there were the other usual causes of death - disease, starvation, general hardship. We couldn't hold social power back then - we were too busy trying to stay alive to worry about anything else.
We've come a long way in that department - women are now outliving their husbands. We are an integral part of the social structure but old habits do die hard. I'm sure there are a lot of men who hold the secret dream of 'the old days.' The Old Days where we were completely subservient, kept our mouthes shut and our opinions to ourselves.
The advent of the 'Goddess' religions or the Dianic paths were a direct result of women's refusal to be dominated anymore. Doesn't mean it was right - Dianic belief was and still is a form of protest. It is unbalanced - its as unbalanced as any past or present form of male dominated spirituality. There is duality in all things.
If we truly want to be equal, then we do have to earn that equality. Again, unfair but there you go. It means refusing to take part in anything where a woman is placed in a - even if its symbolic - subservient position. It means behaving as equals. It means not setting ourselves up as sexual toys/servants. It means taking a damn stand, not screaming for equal rights on one hand and then playing victim on the other.
You are either equal or you are not. It will be a long hard haul but nothing worth having is easily won. Thelemites believe the New Aeon is upon us - Horus rules as the child. Well, children can't survive without their mothers - even 'heavenly' children. They can and do survive without their fathers though. So ultimately the choice may be their own - ride with the Scarlet Woman and her Child or be left behind.
